S is for Strain Relief

S is for Strain Relief

Description

This was designed for holiday lighting controllers, where you typically have one or two Cat5-type cables going into the box, daisy-chaining controllers together. They need to be easy to set up and tear down, and strain relief on these cables is necessary so that the RJ45 ports on the board don't get damaged if the cable is pulled (e.g. if someone trips on it walking through the yard). Simply pass the wires through the folds of the 'S', and leave enough slack in the cable so that when the 'S' jams against the bottom of the controller box, your comm ports are protected. For even more protection, use a second 'S' facing the opposite direction to ensure the wires don't fall out of the ends (see photo). I would imagine there are other uses outside of the animated lighting world where this might be useful as well.
