Drought-Alert Planter

Drought-Alert Planter

Description

Yes, this is another “Planter”. Yes, it has a water reservoir; but no, it isn’t self-watering, no pot is, you still need to fill it up every so often. But at least this one alerts you when the water is getting low, so one up on most planters. Here is how the low-water-alert works < https://youtu.be/AADvED2eM7I > The reservoir holds approx. 300ml of free water, plus what is in the soil. Capillary action holes are deliberately only placed in the bottom of the planter to slow water movement rates. Deliberately square to maximise planting volume for the footprint. At X150 x Y150mm x Z150mm it will accommodate most medium sized house plants. Made from PETG and with the print settings as listed it appears fully waterproof in use. For size reference it is pictured holding with a Peace Lilly. Optional drip-tray included - in case you trust your printing ability as much as I don't trust mine. The main float pivot is made using a 25mm M3 stainless hex bolt with washers used to reduce plastic on plastic friction. Print Instructions: [PETG 0.4noz / 0.15 Layer first Ext=240, Bed=85 then Ext=250, Bed=90] The Planter (top) prints right way up (with only ‘enforced’ supports painted on for the float mount). 40% infill & 4 perimeters. The water reservoir (bottom) benefits from ‘print-bed’ supports on but will print without it. 40% infill & 4 perimeters. The float prints best when inverted with print bed support ON. 5% infill and 2 perimeters. The indicator prints best on its side with its pivot lugs vertical and with print bed support ON. 5% infill and 2 perimeters. Gentle support detachment with a blade is required, especially for the indicator. The G-code files include the above orientations and settings. These are big prints, but then it is a big pot …
