Losmandy GM811 DEC worm block pivot tensioner
Description
Due to production tolerances, the GM811 left side worm block pivot post can be a loose fit in the hole. This causes the entire worm assembly to shift sideways during tracking and / or in the presence of wind gusts. This is a major source of backlash and wind susceptibility. This device presses against the gearbox cover and forces the worm block pivot posts against the right side of the hole, preventing sideways motion and reducing backlash. The wedge is printed with 4-40 threads but you may have to chase the threads with a 4-40 tap to clean them up enough for smooth operation. You will need a 4-40 X 1.25" screw, two washers and a locknut. Install under the stock shoulder washer, tighten the pivot bolt until not quite snug and adjust the wedge screw until the wedge develops enough force to prevent sideways movement but still allows the block to pivot.
