Luminous Skywatcher polarscope illuminator
Description
Polarscope reticle illuminator to fit Skywatcher mounts without a built in illuminator. One of the first practical models I printed was Danny Havenith's LED polar scope illuminator (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4419314) but never managed to get the right amount of nail polish to dim the LED sufficiently. Plus clumsy hands meant I had a tendency to bend the LED leads making contact a bit fiddly. Fast forward a bit and I have some luminous filament and thought I might have the ideal solution eliminating the need for a battery. A quick mod to the scad file to remove the battery holder and holes, and add a cylinder of print in the centre of the aperture and it works rather well. Incoming light is reduced by about 15%, but given the polarscope has a decent aperture the effect is negligible. A few seconds illuminating the object with a UV torch is ideal, but a decent LED torch should suffice just as well, and the light shows up the reticle well without drowning out polaris. As per Danny's design the original cap fits to prevent ingress.
