Lego compatible Palm Tree
Description
This is a Lego compatible palm tree with moveable segments. I tried to make this tree user friendly and kept some of the aspects very basic and easy to print. The tree is made up of 4 parts. The palm base is what attaches to your base plate. It is followed by the palm tree segments which snap into each other very snuggly...so keep that in mind when assembling. The palm fronds are attached to the segments by the frond base. I never knew what a frond was until I did some research on this tree :) I opted for CA glue to keep the fronds in place. It's easy and keeps them in place while moving the tree around your lego landscape. *Quick tip* - attach the frond base to the palm segments first before gluing the fronds in place. Palm Fronds: I made these to be very basic...and flat...sort of. The original Lego fronds had features that would not allow this to print easy and would require a lot of supports. I didn't want to overcomplicate this so I dumbed down the overall look. If there is enough comments and inquires about having a nicer looking frond I may be able to come up with something (ideas and comments are welcome). I put a slight bend in my fronds to achieve that lovely droopy palm look. I did this by hand while the parts were still warm from the printer. You can do the same thing with a hair dryer or heat gun. Tree segments: These were by far the most challenging to design. It's basically a ball and socket, sized to fit with some resistance so the tree can be poseable. These were printed at .1mm layer height. All parts were printed without supports, though I'm not sure if that was the best way to go about this. Anyway, have fun and please leave comments or ask questions!
