Wheelchair Lever Drive

Wheelchair Lever Drive

Description

I HAVE NOT YET PRINTED THIS OR TRIED IT FOR FUNCTIONALITY YET - DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. The Whole Lever Drive file shows how to assemble the lever drive I'm in the process of getting this printed, so I'll post updates when I do. This is a design for a lever drive for wheelchair wheels that uses a long handles 1/2 inch drive socket wrench as the lever. In this design, you can choose between the socket wrench attaching to the outer ring (which gives roughly a push ratio of 2.33) or attaching the socket wrench to the planets, which gives roughly a push ratio of 3.33). For the 2.33x push ratio: 1. Superglue the pegs on the wheel face to the bottom of the planetary gear. 2. Superglue the three outer ring pegs into the outer ring of the planetary gear. 3. Superglue the ratchet adapter to the outer ring pegs. 4. Attach the lever drive to your wheel hub using M6 bolts and washers wide enough to bride the gap between two of your spokes (you may have to use curved strips if you have fewer spokes or mag wheels). 5. Insert socket wrench into adapter and go! For the 3.33x push ratio: 1. Insert one planet gear peg into the bottom of each planet gear. 2. Superglue the pegs on the wheel face to the bottom of the planetary gear set, wedging the planet gear pegs between the wheel face and the planetary gear set. 3. Superglue the ratchet adapter onto the six planet gear pegs, being sure not to superglue the pegs to the planet gears (they need to rotate within each planet to function properly). 4. Attach the lever drive to your wheel hub using M6 bolts and washers wide enough to bride the gap between two of your spokes (you may have to use curved strips if you have fewer spokes or mag wheels). 5. Insert socket wrench into adapter and go! If you try it out, let me know how it goes!
