3DQF Bambu AMS Spool Cutting Jig & Roller Rings
Description
This is our Latest design to allow the fitment of 3DQF cardboard spool to the Bamnu Labs AMS unit. To complete the project you will require some basic hardware (listed below). All parts have been designed to be printed without support although depending on how well your printer deals with overhangs it may be worth adding supports to the low-friction hoops. *Required parts* M5X16 Cap Head Bolt X2 M5 Washer X1 M5 Nylon Locking Nut x 1 Standard Stanley Knife Blade x 1 (The above hardwear pack can be bought directly from the 3DQF Website) *Instruction on assembly* *Attaching the centre hub to arm.* Thread the M5 bolt into the arm, over tighten to strip the threads that the bolt makes in the arm. Install the m5 washer on the bolt and thread the M5 bolt into the centre hub ( sandwiching the washer between the bottom of the arm and the top of the centre hub). Again tighten the hub so that it strips the threads that the M5 bolt may have made. Install the M5 lock nut in the underside of the centre hub, spin the hub while holding the M5 bolt with an Allen Key to tighten the assembly. Tighten the assembly together, then back off 3/4 of a turn. It's important that the centre hub and arm can move independently of each other without unscrewing the nylon locking nut, hence the requirement to break the threads once the bolt has threaded into the plastic parts. *Attaching the blade holder to arm* The blade holder will slide into the arm from the base, push firmly on the blade holder to seat it in the top of the arm. There's a hole in the blade holder and arm, these holes should line up once correctly seated. Pass an M5 bolt through the hole and thread into the blade holder. Once the bolt starts to thread insert the Stanley knife blade into the blade holder. Slowly tighten the bolt until it bottoms outs on the blade locking it in position (do not over-tighten as you will either strip the threads or damage the blade holder). leave around 10-15mm of exposed blade. *Attach safety Guard* Line up the indent on the guard with the ball on the blade holder and clip on the guard to fully cover the blade. Due to the printing layers, the latching section of this part can be a little fragile, care should be taken when removing and installing. *Operation* Remove the Blade safety cap and line the blade up with the securing strap hole. Insert the centre bushing into the spool centre ( snug / tight fit). Start the cut in either the first or second securing strap hole. Advance the blade around while holding the spool firmly (caution should be used when advancing the blade and your hand position). The cutter should cut off a thin ring which will then allow the fitting of the low-friction hoops. Once the low friction hoop is fitted cut a hole in the card that lines up with the new securing locations and pass the filament through, then move to the other side to repeat the above. If you have cut the filament free so that it is released at the end of the roll, make sure that this is cleanly cut flush with the body of the spool. Any filament sticking proud will catch on the AMS and cause issues. If you have any questions please feel free to drop us an email at Sales@3Dqualityfilaments.co.uk. Please note this cutting tool is used at your own risk, you are dealing with a very sharp blade and some force is required to advance the blade and cut the card. If you are unable to use this tool please contact us and we will make arrangements to modify your spools for you free of charge. *Future updates* We are working on a new spool design that will not require cutting down, it will require a set of low friction rings to be fitted as per all Card spools in the AMS but will negate the cutting steps and thus dramatically reduce the amount of effort involved.
