Maiolica Pharmacy Jar
Description
A maiolica jar with a pair of applied, ornate handles in the shape of sea-horses and a short spout. The body of the jar bears the arms of the Order of St Francis (Franciscans) surrounded by fruit and floral decoration. The reverse is decorated with stylized pinecones, a form of the Persian palmette. The jar may have contained syrup, oil or medicated waters. This is a hollowed out and printable version of the 16th century Maiolica Pharmacy Jar in the Hunt Museum. I designed a lid to go with the jar in order to use it for watering small plants at home. The original scan is from the scan the world collection and is an exact replica. The jar has a spout and is decorated with seahorses.
