Athearn FM H-24-66 "Train Master" Re-Motor Kit
Description
This is a kit (motor mount, replacement drive shafts, mounting washers) for replacing the factory motor in an [Athearn FM H24-66](https://hoseeker.net/assemblyexplosionAthearn/athearnh2466trainmaster1979.jpg) ["Train Master" locomotive](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FM_H-24-66) with a 280-size DC motor. I wanted to keep the flywheels (and the provided drive shafts can accommodate them), but the vibration was unacceptable. I am not sure if this is due to the flywheels being eccentric or if the 3D printed parts are themselves not quite true. The Kapton tape is structural in this case. There is very little clearance between the motor and the inside of the shell, so the mount cannot enclose the motor. Instead, the tape clamps the motor into the mount. Some sort of glue could presumably be used instead. As with other mounts, 2-56 nuts have been pressed and CA-glued into the base of the mount. Small rubber pads have been placed between the motor mount and the frame. Some manual fitting was necessary to get the motor into the mount and to attach the mount to the frame of the locomotive. If I was to do this again, I would enlarge the mount's motor cavity a bit and adjust the distance between the holes for connecting the mount to the frame.
