Spool hydro probe
Description
I suspecting that the filament was wet from the supplier even though it comes in a thick sealed plastic bag with desiccant so I did this thing. My result was 36% after 1 hour and 39% after 10 hours at 20C. The hygrometer was stored in a dry box 10% and showed 16% before insertion. Room temp ~20C and ~36%. I’m no expert but I think that anything above 25% is bad for long time storage. I assume that the filament was wet from the beginning and the desiccant can’t absorb enough water. The filament prints quite well anyway but you never but water it can possibly cause problems. The scary design was needed because the plastic was quite tuff. The pictures were taken during development at it need more tape to seal it properly. ###How to use: Insert round hygrometer in the probe (diameter base 41 lip 45) Push it throw the centre of the spool plastic. Cover hygrometer and with transparent tape (to seal it). Wait at least an hour before taking a measurement. I recommend ambient temperature of 20C. | Date | Brand | Type | Colour | Ambient | 1h | 10h | |------------|--------|------|--------|---------|-----|-----| | 2023-03-24 | CO | PLA | White | 20C | 36% | 39% | I only use PLA and ABS and I only buy from CO so don’t have another brand to compare with so please post your results here.
