Coral Clog (Sango Geta)
Description
Geta are traditional Japanese footwear that resembles flip-flops. Traditionally made of wood, these clogs were meant to keep your kimono from dragging on the ground, dirt, water, and snow. Because of the slip-on design, geta are very easy to take off when entering homes to not track filth in. I decided to create ergonomic geta using the generative design in Fusion360. I placed forces and moments at crucial contact points on a normal pair of geta and waited for the minimal mass structure to generate. The result resembles coral which is why I named my shoe the Sango Geta (Japanese), or Coral Clog (English). After printing, you should put 2 strings of material through the holes so that it resembles the pictures. I would recommend using thick yarn from a craft store but anything can work as long as they can be tied to secure the material. This shoe is meant to fit like a US W9-9.5 shoe. It could support the weight of at least a 165lb person but can probably hold more if you use a stronger filament with greater infill. I was able to walk around on them the same way you would walk with geta. I plan on improving this shoe design so feedback is appreciated!
