Trombone mouthpieces
Description
These mouthpieces were designed in Fusion 360 roughly following the profiles provided by the Wedge Mouthpiece website (https://wedgemouthpiece.com/all-trombone-mouthpieces). The mouthpiece files are named according to their names on the website. Usage I'm qualified to talk about this because I'm studying jazz trombone at the University of Michigan. The 98C performs similarly to the Bach 7C, the 95C performs similarly to a Bach 11C, and the 100G is supposed to be similar to a Bach 5G (though I don't own this mouthpiece, so I can't tell you how similar they are). I am able to use the 98C and 95C for long periods on my small bore tenor trombone, and I enjoy their sound. I think compared to metal mouthpieces, these sound slightly muted and/or darker, so if you like that sound these may be good for you. I used the 100G as my main mouth piece for euphonium for a month or so, and I had no issues. I printed this one at 0.3mm layer height, and eventually the throat snapped in the mouthpiece receiver, so I would recommend printing at a smaller layer height if you can. If it does break, it's 20 cents to make another out of PLA, so not really an issue. Printing Printing these is difficult because if your first layer is too good the mouthpiece will have a big flat section! I would've designed it to be rounder to accommodate for the flattening, but then the overhangs would have been difficult and the rim might have sagged. I think the slight flatness is a decent compromise. Oddly, the mouthpieces feel a bit more comfortable when printed at 0.3mm layer height, maybe because the larger extrusion lines sit less flat on my face? I recommend going for a smaller layer height for less chance of breakage and more detail in the rim/cup. Air leakage is not an issue, even at larger layer heights. Be sure to align the rim of the mouthpiece with the build plate. Supports are not necessary for these mouthpieces. For infill I usually use around 15-20%. It doesn't really matter, it's mostly walls anyway. If you use thinner walls in your custom preset, it probably would be a good idea to change that back to something like 2 walls.
