"Only Gay Cops Pull Me Over" Motorcycle license plate frame (One nozzle, two colors)
Description
This is a license plate frame for a standard size US motorcycle license plate, which is 4x7 inches. The text will need to be centered into the empty space in the holes inside the frame in your slicer, and then printed in two separate .gcode files on the same print surface. You will find a good video explaining the process here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Sla-vIsvh4 You CANNOT center the text and the frame. You can center the frame, but you MUST manually align the text inside of the negative space in the frame for it. Yes, it has to be pixel perfect, it will take a couple of minutes. Yes, it's annoying. Yes, I could have added material to the text to make it easily align-able in your slicer. Yes, I'm gay. Here is a breakdown of the steps you need to do to maximize your success: 1. Import both the text and the frame into your chosen slicer (I use Cura) 2. Make sure both the objects are oriented properly (face down) 3. Right click the frame and center it. 4. Carefully and slowly drag the letters into the open space for them inside the frame. You will know you have it right when you see a uniform, pixel width, intermittent outline of the frame around the letters. It should look like this: https://i.imgur.com/D0xvraF.png NOT like this: https://i.imgur.com/3hseAa0.png 5. Double check that the frame is centered to the build plate. 6. Delete the frame from the slicer. 7. Set your profile. The important things are: - .2 layer height - NO skirt/brim/raft 8. Export the .gcode file, and rename it to something you'll be able to recognize it as (Letters) 9. Open up the frame in a new slicer window. 10. Center it. 11. Apply your print settings to the same ones as you did your letters, with the following important changes: - "Z-Hop when retracted" MUST be ON. - "Z-Hop height" MUST be .7 (at least) - You don't have to, but you should print a skirt to extrude the rest of the old filament color out of the nozzle, since you will be swapping filament between prints. 12. Export the print and save it as something you will recognize (Frame) Some tips to help printing: - Use hairspray and print on smooth glass for best surface finish - Purge any old colors out of your nozzle before printing the letters to make sure your letters are visible and in the correct color - Print the first few layers (3-4) of the frame slowly - Make sure you have very good "squish" on your first layer, your letters will look much better with a honed z offset. - Print with a lot of top/bottom layers and walls (5+) Shoutout to r/calamariraceteam
