Binocular Tripod Adapter
Description
I was looking at buying a tripod/monopod/benchtop-mini-tripod adapter for a Celestron Nature DX 10x42 binocular set, when I saw how long the wait time was on the shipping. I figured I could do better with a couple of hours in FreeCAD. Admittedly it took about four hours to get to this (second) functional revision. This Binocular Tripod Adapter is designed to use real hardware for mounting, it requires the following hardware: - 1 inch long 1/4x20 hex head bolt (for fixing to the binoculars) - 1/4x20 hex nut (for fixing to the tripod) The main part of the adapter has been designed to be printed on the angled back side (and has an integral support in the design that you need to cut off around the main bolt tube). I designed this to be printed this way so that none of the layer lines susceptible to the gravity based stressed being placed on the bracket. Printed in PETG this is a very sturdy adapter. The knurled "thumbscrew" nut head simply slides over the one inch hex head bolt using a friction fit, this needs no supports and can be printed on the flat face. Once the adapter body has been printed you need to cut off the integral support around the main bolt tube, and then slide the 1/4 inch nut into the base (also a friction fit). This means that the adapter can either be used in a traditional 44mm and 42mm quick release tripod mounts or screwed onto 1/4 inch tripod threaded mounts also. The top of the adapter is fixed to the binoculars using the centre 1/4x20 inch threaded socket on most binocular bridges. The design has been modified to make it fit easier in Roof prism cameras as well.
