Low Poly American Akita Solar Lantern

Low Poly American Akita Solar Lantern

Description

This is a remix of DiirtySanchez's "Low Poly American Akita" to turn it into a solar-powered lantern. The hole and PCB holder are designed around the cheap solar lights that are advertised as "solar garden lights" on AliExpress etc. They have a ~24mm solar panel and a board based around the common YX8018 chip. The guts of one of those lights can be installed directly into this print to make a nice lantern. Potential modifications include swapping the LED to a different color, and changing the inductor to a different value to adjust the brightness. I found printing with glow-in-the-dark filament and using a UV led produced a neat effect. The solar panel can be a tight fit depending on the filament and printer settings, so there's a hole under the tail to allow you to poke it free with a stick. Without some sort of sealant around the panel, or some sort of additional coating on the board, the electronics are likely to corrode from moisture. The hole under the tail allows some drainage for water that does get in, but it's probably best to keep it dry.
