BIQU H2 Revo Mount and Cooler for Ender 5 Plus
Description
This is a combination toolhead mount and remote part cooler for the BIQU H2 with Revo hotend and the Ender 5 Plus. It also incorporates a mount for the CR/BL touch which keeps the Y offset of the probe at zero. The remote cooling is supplied by a standard 19mm CPAP hose. This was designed specifically for the Ender 5+ and Revo using the CR Touch, however I have included files that have been adjusted for the original H2 and Biqu’s hot end and CR/BL touch variants as they have different retracted heights. Since I do not own or have access to the original H2 hotend and extruder combo, I have not been able to test it and the models have been designed using reference models. I can not guarantee their adequacy. If you do use one of the non-Revo models, please let me know if it worked. The H2 500c seems to be the same dimensions as the standard H2 and should hopefully be compatible. This model was designed to maintain the same build volume as the stock extruder and the nozzle is in the exact same location. It is your responsibility to make sure that you have all needed clearances for the hotend and extruder. PAY EXTREMELY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE Z RODS. If your Z rods or lead screws extend any higher than the pillow blocks used to retain the rods, you will crash the nozzle and touch sensor into them. Things to consider when building this. The part cooler is an airfoil that envelopes the nozzle in a 360 degree radius and is somewhat similar to the way a “bladeless” Dyson fan works. The design fits closely to the nozzle of the Revo which means you absolutely must print the part cooler out of a material that has a high heat deflection such as Carbon Fiber reinforced Nylon 6 or Polycarbonate. No, you cannot print the cooler out of PETG, it will deform and fuse together. Can you use ABS? Don’t know; haven’t tried. Given the low heat deflection, probably not. The way the part cooler is designed it creates a vacuum above the part cooler’s opening that will pull ambient air down around the nozzle and through the opening. You may find you’ll need slightly higher temps. The cooling works wonderfully for the Revo nozzle, however I have not tested the part cooler designed for Biqu’s hotend which sits significantly further from the nozzle tip do to the size of the heater block. The extruder mount for the toolhead should work fine using ABS, ASA, PETG, or any other decently temp resistant polymer, just don’t use PLA. I printed mine out of Carbon Fiber PETG and it works well. The parts should be printed on a smooth build surface if possible, this is more important for the part cooler. Assembly There are 6 printed parts for this design: The H2 Mount to hold the extruder A pair of standoffs to support the hose guide The hose guide The ducting from the CPAP hose for the part cooler The lid for the part cooler. The parts are all designed to be printed without supports, but some short bridging will be needed. For the H2 mount, it is designed around a 0.2mm layer height using either a 0.6 or 0.4 nozzle. For the part cooler, you should use a finer layer height such as 0.15. I recommend sanding and smoothing the inside of the air foil to reduce turbulence and drag if your print isn’t very smooth. After you have the lid and ducting for the part cooler printed, you can insert the lid into the ducting opening. The model is keyed for alignment, but you must pay attention to line up the side opening of the lid with the opening of the ducting from the hose. Use an adhesive glue to secure it in place and seal the seam closed on the top. I used standard cyanoacrylate glue (Super Glue) and it’s fine. Once this is assembled, attach it to the mount for the H2 using a pair of M3x12 socket head screws and a pair of M3 Nylock nuts. Once these are put together you can install the mount on the carriage plate of the ender 5 using 3 x M3x6 socket head screws. You can now install the extruder and hotend. My recommendation is to reorient the stepper motor on the H2 so that the connector points down towards the bed and not up towards the top and rout the wires behind the tool head and over the duct of the cooler, but that’s just a preference. I recommend you remove the Revo hotend and nozzle from the H2 and rest the heater block without the nozzle in the middle of the part cooler before inserting the H2 into the mount, then reattach it when the H2 is secure. There are channels built into the mount on the left and right sides to route the wires. There are also a series of small openings for small zip ties to help with cable management. Use 4 M3x6 socket head screws to attach the H2 to the mount, two on the top bar, two on the bottom bar. The CR touch can be attached using a pair of M3x8 socket head screws and M3 nuts. Personally I use a pair of M3x6 nylon female to female standoffs instead of nuts as they are lighter and much easier to insert in the limited space. You will need to remove one end of the CPAP hose so that you can feed it through the hose guide. Once you have done that you can attach the hose guide to the rear of the mount using the 3D printed standoffs and a pair of M3x8 socket head screws for the mount side and a pair of M3x4 socket head screws for the hose guide, the standoffs are self threading. There is a self threading hole in the top of the mount for the H2 where an M3x30 screw can be inserted and serve as a strain relief if needed. I use bundled piano wire to help keep the loom steady and zip tie it there. You can feed the PTFE tube through the guide provided there and then use zip ties to secure it in place if you don’t want to run the tube all the way to the extruder (I don’t). For the part cooling fan I recommend the Mellow 7040 blower. I will be adding a model for the blower housing and controller, so check my models for it. You can use a 120mm blower, however it is not anywhere near as powerful and often doesn't work with PWM.
