Magnetic Gear Links
Description
This prototype builds off of the magnetic gears concept (linked below). https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6198146 In the magnetic gears, the orientation of one magnet rotates twice as much as its centroid rotates about the centroid of the other. Because of this and the fact that there are two stable and unstable equilibria alternating at 90 degrees, the unstable equilibrium can be treated as the stowed state and stable equilibrium as the deployed state for 180 degrees of rotation. The gears can then be incorporated with links, where only one quarter of the gear is required to maintain rotation without slipping. A hard stop can be incorporated to ensure a more stable equilibrium in the deployed state, as well as additional magnets to deepen the energy well. The additional magnets here are so strong that they cause rotation about their edges, resulting in an additional stable state. Thus, this prototype has two stable equilibria, and can rotate from -180 to +180 degrees.
