Buoyancy Engine

Buoyancy Engine

Description

This is a lead screw driven buoyancy engine. It is designed to go into a water bottle to make an underwater glider. The lead screw drives a counterweight and syringe at the same time. The glider starts near the surface, it draws in water which causes it to sink. At the same time it moves the counterweight forward which causes it to pitch down. The glider has wings. The angle of attack caused by the change in pitch combined with the downward motion generates lift on the wings which propels the glider forward. The buoyancy engine then expels water causing it to rise back up to the surface. It simultaneously moves the counterweight aft which causes the glider to pitch up. This change in pitch and upward motion again generates lift from the wings and propels the glider forward.
