Taz4/5 Silicone Bed Leveling System
Description
This modification is one more step in cleaning up layer offset artifacts (z wobble). This takes the original design and adds a round extension to better support a silicone bed leveling spacer that replaces the spring. It also adds a spacer under the bed plate to increase the support from below. Parts: I used these silicone columns with a 35mm M4 bolt. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BK3L3T8S These should also work but are higher than needed and will require a much longer M4 bolt. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S2R5C6P (8) M3 Socket Head Screws (you can reuse the ones that originally in similar position, but they no longer will thread through the bed plate) (8) M3 Short Heat Insert Nuts (insert into the corner base) (4) M4 x 35mm Socket Head Screws (or alternatively 45mm length with a taller silicone column) (4) M4 Long Heat Insert Nuts (insert into adjustment knob) With the shorter silicone columns, there should be no need to extend the Z stop adjustment screw. If you go with the taller ones, then you will need to replace the Z stop screw and knob with a taller one. Requires a 4.2 mm drill (approximately). Requires high heat stable filament like ABS. Print at least.50% Increase wall thickness if not printing solid for strength and rigidity. STEPS: Print the parts included in the design. Insert the heat insert nuts into all the parts where needed. Use the corner part to temporality attach using existing M3 screws to the stock bed plate. Use it as a guide for drilling out a hole for each corner. I used one that didn't print as well which I wasn't going to use for final build. Remove it after drilling. Assemble as shown in the photo. A set for each corner using the M4 screw. The Top of the Button head screw should be flush with the top of the corner base (photo shows it extending out). Based on your printer settings, you may need to drill out a little of the top of the corner for this screw so that recesses into place correctly. Assemble the bed plate onto the printer, Place the bed into position and use the corner bed locks to hold it in place. Remember to relevel your bed before printing. The silicone columns will compress easily as you turn the adjustment knobs. Start with them all snug but not compressing and tighten from there.
