A-10 Scale Wheel Rims E-Flite 64mm A-10 EDF
Description
Scale wheel rims for the E-Flite 64mm A-10 EDF. Designed for use with Dave Brown low bounce tires (Mains 2", Front 1.75"). http://www.ohio-superstar.com/dave-brown-product-line/treaded-wheels. The rims are joined with a tapered hex key and are intended to snap together. Hoping to avoid adhesives to join the rim halves. Rim disassembly is possible by hand or with leverage tools (eg tip of a butter knife to pry rims apart once the tire is installed). The scale rims have a much lower side wall than the Dave Brown rims. The risk is TBD of lateral forces on taxi, TO or landing pushing the tires off the rims. If this occurs, I plan to glue the tires to the rims. Finish drill the axle holes before installing the tires. Use a pen to to make an alignment mark on both wheel halves and the hex pin. Press the hex pin into one half of the rim. Press the second rim half onto the hex pin. The center-line gap between halves should be very small. If hand drilling, small increases in diameter minimize drift. Verify the wheels roll freely on the axles. Rims are ready for painting if desired. To enlarge the ID for the tires to fit the rims, slide the tire die tools and a tire onto a 9mm OD rod. Use light pressure and rotation of the dies against the tire to abrasively cut the larger hole in the tire. The die tools degrade quickly but 1 set per tire was adequate for me. Go slowly and maintain alignment so as to make the cut concentric to the tire OD. Reassembly the rims on each wheel using the alignment marks to position each piece same as when drilled. Verify wheel still roll freely on axle.
