MameBoy+ Trigger L2 R2 ZL ZR Button Support
Description
I made this to add L2 / R2 trigger buttons to the excellent MameBoy+ kit sold by Zega adding extra wires to the Raspberry Pi Zero GPIO pins (GPIO14 and GPIO7). The button assembly makes use of the abundant space in the battery bay when using the Lithium battery, and could probably be used as easily with other DMG-01 shell based retro gaming kits, and could also be used to perform L1 and R1 if you'd rather not have the buttons in the main shell. Adding the buttons to the battery flap rather than the shell means if you make a mistake, you only need to replace the flap rather than a whole modified shell. I used generic tactile 'clicky' switches (available from internet auction sites and retailers named after rainforests etc) and tactile button caps (dia6) from the same kinds of places, though you could also design and print your own. You will also need 3 small M2 or M2.3 self-tapping electrical device screws. The template slots into the underside of the battery flap, I was using a RetroSix repro case so I can only confirm that, but offering the template up to an original Nintendo battery flap (red in the pictures) suggests it would work fine. The template is for a sub-2mm pilot drill, best done by hand and better still with a drill bit that's been warmed up. The hole was then opened up to 6mm with a step drill, but the final hole needs to be about 7mm. The 'Flap Mould' part is designed to be glued to the flap after the holes are drilled. The tactile switches need to be soldered at this point; you can either pass wires through the slot in the retention plate, or bend the tabs up to horizontal and have the wires fit between the mould and the retention plate. Fit the switches into the recess on the retention plate, you can add a small blob of glue if you wish for ease of assembly, but when you offer the plate to the mould and screw together, the switch will be retained securely.
