Locost 7 Lotus Trailer fender to Harley tail light adapter

Locost 7 Lotus Trailer fender to Harley tail light adapter

Description

For my Locost 7 project, it was tail light time. I decided to use aftermarket Harley Davidson tail lights, as used on virtually every Harley for the last 50 years. There are plenty of cheap knock offs, and I bought this pair on Amazon for little. They look nice. Nicer than OEM Lotus 7 tail lights, which kinda look like HF trailer tail lights. The issue is: The Harley rear fenders are more or less donut shaped. That is 2 radii. The trailer fender I am using for the Locost is cylinder shaped, or 1 radius. So the Harley tail light would not just bolt up, but would leave gaps. So I drew up this adapter. The back is the trailer fender/Locost shape and the front is the Harley fender shape. I put 2 Rivnuts, 1/4x20, in the fender, then attach the adapter with bolts. There is a 3/4" hole to feed the wire/plugs through, and I made a grommet to fill the hole and let the wire pass through. Attach the grommet to the inside of the fender with silicone and seal up the slot with silicone also, once installed. For good measure, I'll put some silicone between the adapter and the fender as well, after I paint it. I print only in ABS. I had some issues printing it standing up. My Ender 3 would have some delamination where the 2 columns meet the cross part. I solved this by splitting it in 2 and printing the back and front halves, then gluing together with acetone and a clamp. Hold the light back piece against the front of the adapter. Take a 1/8" drill bit and drill through the back piece. Screw the back piece to the adapter with sheet metal screws. OpenSCAD source included. Dr.Hess
