Unnamed Checkerboard 2

Unnamed Checkerboard 2

Description

Puzzle description: This checkerboard dissection puzzle was published in the Compendium of Checkerboard Puzzles by Jerry Slocum in 1983. The pieces are also given at https://puzzlewillbeplayed.com/Checkerboard/UnnamedCheckerboard/2/. Put the 14 pieces together to form a 8x8 square with correct checkerboard pattern. The outstanding feature of this puzzle is the pair of two single 1x1 squares. One could assume that they make the puzzle easy, but the one-sided version has only 24 solutions. You also can print the two-sided version, see below. If you can read German: Mehr Informationen gibt es in https://welt-der-geduldspiele.blogspot.com/search?q=3D-Druck Puzzle difficulty: This one-sided version of the puzzle is difficult, the two-sided versions are much easier. Printing instructions: Before you start you have to decide what to print: Either the (difficult) one-sided version or one of the (easier) two-sided versions. For the one-sided version print the pieces with solid back (Checkerboard 2_Compendium_pieces_onesided.stl) and 32 caps in two colors each. Snap the caps onto the pieces as in the photo. For the two-sided version print the pieces without back (Checkerboard 2_Compendium_pieces_twosided.stl) and 64 caps in two colors each. On the first side, place the caps as in the case of the one-sided pieces. For the back, you again have two options: You can color the back as the front or change the colors at the back. There are STL files for 32 or 64 caps. An additional STL file for spare caps is also included. Prints are fine with no supports. I printed the puzzle in PLA at 0.1 mm layer height.
