HORIZONTAL EXPANSION CALIBRATION

HORIZONTAL EXPANSION CALIBRATION

Description

This is a print intended to calibrate your "horizontal expansion" / "xy size compensation" value so that close fitting, or print-in-place objects, such as the favorite gear bearing: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:53451 will print reliably. Target case: The pin should drop in to the hole such that its top is flush, or just slightly recessed. Each part has a "straight" and "tapered" section. The "tapered" section slopes 0.10 mm inward (0.20 mm difference in diameter) over a length of 5 mm. So, theoretically, for every 1 mm that the top edge of the pin sits above or below the top edge of the hole, the horizontal expansion must be adjusted by 0.01 mm inward or outward, respectively. The calibration print takes less than 15 minutes, even at a relatively slow speed so iterations can be accomplished quickly. The model orientations are such that mating surfaces of the tapered portions are both "non-overhanging", and so won't have overhang effects.
