NuckingFuts pushrod Tube Modification
Description
After several attempts at printing the rear fuselage of this brilliant design - Nucking Futs pylon racer by @tahustvedt #tahustvedt - I kept ending up with pushrod tubes that were too narrow (or encumbered by stringing which were hard to remove) for even the thinnest pushrods I had - way too much friction: the design inner diameter is 2mm, which should be plenty enough, but I guess that the PLA foaming/expansion results in constriction of the tube. I use a CR10 and an Ender 3 and E-sun LW-PLA (have tried other brands but the plastic density ends up being too high and there is a maximum for the legally allowable aircraft mass where I live. So I ended up doing this mod - extracted the inner surface of the pushrod tube with Fusion360, widened it with Blender (using the "solidify" function), and then recombined everything with Fusion360. And I end up with a pushrod tube that has an inner diameter of 4mm and an outer diameter of 6mm. Aerodynamically this does not look as good as the original - the outer wall of the tube ends up having a diameter of 6mm, which protrudes from the vertical stabilizer an awful lot, but at least the friction is reduced to nil for the pushrod, which means pitch contrallability. Will share how to do all this upon request, it's simple, but took me some time to figure out!
