Toilet Roll Sisyphus
Description
King Sisyphus (or Sisyphos) is a figure from Greek mythology. He was king of Corinth and promoted navigation and commerce, but he was a greedy liar. He also happily killed guests and travelers in his palace when it served his latest scheme, which was a violation of "guest-obligations" that fell under Hades'/Zeus' domain. Zeus was not amused. When Sisyphus was sent to Hades he lied to the gods and tricked them TWICE so he could go back to earth to live yet another full life. For this, the gods gave Sisyphus the eternal punishment of forever rolling/carrying a boulder up a hill from the depths of Hades. Each time the boulder was to crest the top of the hill it would slip from Sisyphus' grasp and roll back to the bottom. He had to climb back down, get behind the boulder again, and repeat the struggle of pointless, eternal labor. As an Engineer, I have a lot of problems with this entire story. I mean, Sisyphus was a known liar and cheat, yet the gods never bothered to check his stories before allowing him to go back to earth? TWICE?!? Also, "Eternity" is a long time.. if Sisyphus would simply carry a handful of dirt with him from the top of the hill each time he has to go back down, relatively quickly he could level the Hill completely (I'm assuming he's still at it). ...These are some of the things I think about, and design, while in the bathroom ;)
