Steering Links for WPL Metal Front Axle
Description
Tired of messing around with the adjustable links from the WPL metal axle kit, but the stock plastic ones don't fit? Fear not! Here are some non-adjustable plastic steering links you can print. (Note that these do NOT fit the plastic WPL axles, only the metal ones.) I recommend printing them at 100% infill for maximum strength. These are intended to be used with an aftermarket radio that gives the servo a full 90 degrees of travel. If you use the radio that comes with RTR WPL trucks, you will not get nearly as much steering angle (though still more than the plastic axles). If you do have the full 90 degrees of travel, the link should be connected to the third hole in from the end of the servo horn instead of the last hole (see the third photo). If your truck has leaf springs, you may want to cut off the unused end of the horn, as it can interfere with the leafs on full lock. Note that the link from the servo horn is connected to the top side of the inside hole on the right-hand steering knuckle, while the other link goes between the outside holes on the bottom side of the knuckles. You will need three M2.5 screws. Two of them can be the long ones included in the metal axle kit, but the third needs to be only 8mm long. (You can see why in the photos - it can't stick out the top of the knuckle because the other link gets in the way.) The screws coming up from the bottom should be just loose enough for the link to swing freely. The screw coming from the top should be several turns loose, allowing the link to pivot up and down a bit. The screw attaching the link to the servo horn itself should also be a few turns loose. I strongly suggest using thread locker on the screws going into metal to prevent them from loosening further over time. (Do not use thread locker on screws going into plastic, as it can attack some plastics.) The photos show the links mounted on a B16 chassis. (A keen eye will note that I have removed one of the plastic leafs to soften the ride.) Compatibility with other WPL trucks is not guaranteed, but since almost all of them use the same axles, these should theoretically be a universal fit.
