Welding Tips for Dremel
Description
To use, remove the collar and collet from the Dremel so you have only the threaded spindle left. Carefully push and thread over the spindle until full depth is achieved, the tapered part at the end helps with center. The tip acts as filler rod and you add heat into the part through friction. This in many ways works like stick welding, where the electrode also acts as the filler media. There are many parallels to regular welding when it comes to using this. For example, it is possible to burn through thinner walled parts when making repairs. Leveraging techniques such as creating a V shape place with thicker walls around the seams where joints will be made really helps with welding. The technique involved works very similar to welding assemblies that are metal. Tip angle and force are important to get right and it will take some practice but once mastered this is an amazing technique to have in one's arsenal. I use these to weld together hull sections of my hovercraft and other models. I haven't tried this with other plastics yet only PLA, but as long as it doesn't have Teflon in it it will likely work. For practice, print out 2.54mm thick 20mm x 20mm panels, 6 of them, and use these to weld together a cube!
