Improved Micro Swiss NG Cable Chain Attachment
Description
I wanted to modify my original NG extruder cable chain attachment to increase the z-axis build space. The original design was limited by the desire to have the lowest part of the cable chain attachment on or above the plane of the bottom of the cable bracket. I realized that I could lower the height of the x cable chain attachment by splitting the part off the motor band and attaching it with M3x8 mm screws. With this new design I have a maximum z-axis build space of 240 mm on my printer. The top of the cable chain clears the bottom of the gantry by under 1 mm. The bottom of the cable chain clears the extruder carriage wheel by probably less, but I can see a small gap between the chain and the wheel. I had trouble getting the original octagonal band onto the motor, due to the tight spacing between the carriage and the motor on the bottom left corner (looking at the motor from the top). I modified the design to not attempt to follow the contour of the motor in that corner, opting to just extend that edge straight. It is much easier to install. As with the original design the band is held on using an M3x8 mm screw, although this may not be required. The photos show the extruder at the minimum (home) and maximum (for me, 230 mm) positions. The clearance at the home position is improved, but the cable chain does touch the power supply at the maximum position. This contact does not seem to affect anything. Overall I believe that this design is an improvement over my original design and I recommend using it over the original.
