SM-RT80 Oversized Shimano Saint Centrelock Adaptor
Description
Shimano Saint hubs from 2007 to 2008 used a 47mm oversized centerlock size, rather than the standard 35mm. These disc rotors were called SM-RT80, and were obsoleted in 2008. Given they are a consumable part, they are as rare as hens teeth. Not wanting to scrap my NOS saint hubs that were sitting in my bike parts tub for the last 15 years, I decided to make an adaptor that would convert this centerlock size to a more standard size of 6 bolt. Obviously the PCD would be too large for a normal disc, but I chose a size that would easily allow me to machine an SM-RT56 to suit. The mount ring is 3d printed in aluminium. I didnt end up making the lockring as I found one cheap online. Typically the threads are pretty rough when 3d printed, so buying a 43 x 1mm die would be ideal to clean the threads up if you were to print the lockring too. A bit of filing was required to clean up the spline surface on the aluminium print. You could offset the spline face by 0.1mm or so to avoid having to do that if you wanted though. The only other issue I ran into was the fact that normally these saint rotors were orbitally riveted onto the centerlock mount. When you use standard torx disc bolts their heads sit more proud and interfere with the caliper mount. This ideally requires some gentle scalloping, or you can just attack it with an angle grinder like I did. I will make a model for the caliper mount at some point, and when I do I will share that too.
