Nerdy Gurdy 6.3 keybox string lifter and cutting guide
Description
TLDR: Too big of a wheel will prevent high notes on the melody strings. If you use 1.5 mm thick veneer on the wheel (the instructions call for 1.0-1.5 mm thickness), your wheel will end up on the order of 141 mm outside diameter. In my cases it was 141.4 mm OD. This large wheel OD will cause the melody strings to sit very high at the entry to the keybox, and that will cause problems. There's a radius on the upper left corner of the entry into the keybox, put there to reinforce the string lifter (or mute) that's built into the keybox entry. With the string sitting so high, when you play higher notes on the melody strings the strings can contact that radius, and will stop sounding. If you have the problem and don't want to replace the wheel, you can cut out some of the entry into the keybox for clearance, and add a separate string lifter (mute). I made a 3d printed cutting guide to help, as well as a 3d printed string lifter that slides in just behind the face of the keybox. Print these face down on your build plate. The string lifter stl download is standing up to start with, make sure to lay it down flat as well.
