iTouchless 13-Gallon Trash Can Lid Motor Connector Reinforcer

iTouchless 13-Gallon Trash Can Lid Motor Connector Reinforcer

Description

The little plastic piece at the back of our iTouchless DZT13P trash can lid that connects to the motor broke off, so the motor could no longer open or close automatically. I tried gluing it back on, but the motor just tore it back off. So I built this larger part that replaces that part and the internal cover. You need to modify the lid to cut out everything between the inner supports underneath the little cover that you remove, but then this will fit in there nicely. I used a snips to get the larger pieces, then used a rotary tool with a grinding wheel to remove the rest, then used some files and sandpaper to clear it out entirely. Print this with 100% infill so it's strong. I used white PLA because it happened to be loaded in my printer. The original trash can lid is black ABS. Autodesk Inventor file included if you want to edit this. Use three M3 8mm screws in the center for extra reinforcement if you want--they thread into the lid (you need to drill new holes). When you reassemble it, be sure you have the spring loaded properly so that the trash can works. The cost was $0.23 in parts; iTouchless wants $65 as of January 2024 for a replacement lid (when the entire trash can itself sells for around $72).
