Paper Holder/Support for Olympia SG1 and SG3 Typewriters
Description
This is a replacement paper holder/support for Olympia SG1 and SG3 typewriters. The original paper holder on these machines is often missing, so I mocked up a usable replacement that's dimensionally accurate to the original. At full extension, a standard 8.5" x 11" piece of paper will run out of room to type exactly as it reaches the top of the paper holder. The replacement part does have a slightly different orientation to the original: on the original the top part inserts from the front. For simpler printing, I designed mine so that this part inserts from the back instead. It doesn't make any real functional difference but allows this to print with way less supports and bridging. I've also designed two versions of the part, both of which are included here: one file includes plastic dowels which are printed in place and attached to the piece "with dowels", while the other has pockets so you can insert metal dowels "without dowels". The plastic dowel version must be printed with supports, but they're minimal. I've tested the plastic dowel version and it seems strong enough. You have to be careful installing it on the typewriter, bending back the metal spring clips and carefully putting the dowel in place, but it seems solid once installed. Both versions of the print will need a small square of stick-on felt to insert as shown in the pictures. For those printing the metal dowel version, the pockets have a 3mm diameter. Find or make 3mm diameter and 20-22mm length metal dowels and glue in place.
