Nauticam Focus Ring for Lensbaby Velvet 56mm lens
Description
The Lensbaby Velvet 56mm is a Manual Focus lens only. There is no autofocus ability. This project will build a Focus Ring to all the lens to be effectively used underwater using the housing zoom knob. Note that you must also set the lens aperture manually and won't be able to adjust it once installed in the housing. This is a Focus Gear for the Lensbaby Velvet 56mm lens for use with a Nauticam n120 type housing. I tested with D850 and D800 housings, but it should work with any similar model. There was a minor fit difference between the D800 and D850. The D800 needs an extra 1.5mm spacer ring that the D850 does not require. This may apply to other cameras but will require specific testing. The focus gear should sit flush with the housing cog. You may wish to superglue the optional ring to the spacer rim so you don't lose it. The gear is a multi-part design. Since the entire lens telescopes, the gear can not be fixed to the lens. The gear sits on the spacer(s) to keep it in place. Put the TPU sleeve on the lens over the focus grip, rim toward camera. Put the PLA Collar over the sleeve, raised nubs down toward the camera. The two parts should be pushed on until even and snug. Put the camera in the housing with the port and lens removed, port hole facing up. Place the spacers over the lens mount. Install the lens on the camera. Adjust the Gear lever to retract the gear cog. Place the Gear over the lens, aligned with the nubs on the collar. Return the Gear lever to engage the gear cog. The Focus/Zoom knob will NOT turn smoothly unless the port is installed as it holds the gear in place. Install the 60mm port. Test the knob and watch to see if the lens moves fully in and out. If it slips, you may need the additional spacer ring. A solid gear, collar, and spacers are made of PLA+. The flexible sleeve should be TPU. The TPU ring will print in a ring. it should fit snuggly, but you can cut the ring vertically to break the ring if it is too big or small. If you need to cut, adjust so there is about a 5-10mm gap when wrapped around the zoom collar of the lens.
