Proper Apple Vision Pro (AVP) to BoboVR M2/3 converter
Description
Properly converting the BoboVR M2/M3 to the Apple Vision Pro. This print will allow you to convert a BoboVR M2 or M3 halo style head strap to fit the Apple Vision Pro. Unlike other conversion efforts that adapt the existing Meta Quest mounts to the AVP, my approach replaces the MQ mounts entirely, there by providing a more secure connection to the AVP, and also producing less inward motion on the arms of the AVP. However, my approach is destructive, so once you convert the BoboVR M2/M3, there is no going back. Note about the STL files: I only supply the right side, so you'll need to mirror the files in your slicer to print the left side. Be sure to do this for the screw, and screw cap as well, as the threads on the mount will be mirrored as well, when you mirror the mount file. Also, when you screw the screw into the mount, be sure to glue it in place, as there are not enough threads in the mount to safely retain the screw on their own. Once you have all of the STL files printed, you need to start modding the BoboVR strap. To do this, pry the sticker off from the covers that go over the mounting arms. This will expose a screw, take that out. Now these covers also snap into place, and they do so in such a way they are not intended to be removed. I had to use my flush cutter to carefully cut away the snap mounts that are found on either side of the cover (you only need to cut one side to release the covers). Once you do this, it will expose the screws that mount the arm to the headset, as well as the screws that mount the MQ receiver to the arms. You need to unscrew the four screws that mount the MQ receiver to the arms. This will reveal a large circular hole which we will use to mount the AVP to. At this point, you can mount the AVP, and the process is mostly still reversible, minus the fact you probably destroyed the mount arm covers to get to this point. However, in my situation, I found that the geometry of things was still pushing the AVP's arms into the side of my head. So to correct this, I used a bench vice (to hold the BoboVR's mount arm just above the hole) and a hot air gun to deform the plastic, and change the angle of attack, making so it pushed the AVP arms out, instead of pulling them in. This results in the arms never touching my head. Once you do this, obviously, you're never using this strap on a MQ again. Lastly, I cut off the power cable, as there really was no point in keeping it, and it was getting in the way. Comments on comfort: This mod 100% gets the weight of the device off of your face! Which is wonderful. It also makes it easier to share your headset with others, as the BoboVR is very adjustable, and it suspends the headset, making exact seal fitment far less important. You can also use the battery to counter balance the headset, tilting the center of gravity away from your face. I go back and forth as to whether I want that counter balance, but the nice thing is the battery is easily removed and added. The downsides are that this thing is still heavy, and I do feel the pressure on my head. Overall I think this is an improvement, but you simply can't get away from the weight of this device. Which is why the counter weight is a mixed blessing. It does better distribute the weight, but it also increases the weight. So you'll have to experiment. If you want to remix this, please feel free. If you want to post this on another site, again, please feel free. Either way though, please give me credit for this work, and link back to this upload. Thank you! -The Maker Rob
