Ender 3 Ball Bearing Spool Holder

Ender 3 Ball Bearing Spool Holder

Description

I noticed that the extruder had to pull excessively hard to spin the spool of filament on the stock spool holder. This spool holder uses 608 (skateboard) bearings to spin the filament spool with zero resistance. I designed this spool holder to be a drop-in replacement for the stock Creality Ender 3 spool holder. It has been tested on the ender 3 v3 ke, but it should work on any Ender 3. Fits all standard sized 1kg and 250g filament spools. Parts: I recommend using metal 608 bearings for durability, but you could also use 3d printed bearings if you wanted to print everything ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3002837 ). No other parts are required. Printing Instructions: I printed everything in PLA with normal settings. Print (1) "Spool Holder Base" Print (1) "Spool Holder Nut" - This will have to be scaled up in the x and y directions by about 5%. The exact amount will depend on the filament you are using and your machine. You want the nut to thread onto the base smoothly, but not too loose. Print (2) "Spool Holder Spindle" - The spindle comes in 2-halves that are glued together, this allows for better printing Print (4)"Spool Holder Pin" - These may have to be scaled to fit into the holes on the spindle. Assembly Instructions: 1. Press the pins into the holes on one of the spindle halves. The pins ensure the two halves of the spindle line up perfectly. 2. Glue the two halves of the spindle together. 3. Slide the 608 bearings onto the ends of the spindle 4. Press the spindle and bearings into the top of the base. They should slide into place with minimal effort. 5. Unscrew and remove the old spool holder 6. Insert the base into the hole for the spool holder 7. Tighten the nut onto the base of the spool holder to secure the spool holder in place. Use a drop of superglue if you are concerned about the nut working lose.
