Babylon 5 Babylon Project Station Construction Facility

Babylon 5 Babylon Project Station Construction Facility

Description

Ever wonder what that huge spider looking thing was in the opening credits of the first season intro? I did. Deductive reasoning tells us its an assembly dock, but it's so blurry, you could never get a good look at it. So, since no one else ever brought it up, and I love collaboratively filling in the gaps with modern Engineering, today achievable technology and potential storyline lore, here's my take on it. Challenge accepted. So what we have here is an axial rotation Crane Superstructure as the mainstay of the design. Off of it are multi-directional cranes, like robotic arms to position Space frames and the like into position to be welded together. Mind you, I've hear anyway the same metals used in space construction that are the same, at least on the outside can never touch. I don't know how true that is, but fine. It's a good explanation as to why both B5 and Star Trek would have the different color alternating patterns we all know and love to call Aztecing to the Vessels Hull. Anyway, the Superstructure itself has axial rotation, hence the center section hinging both well to be honest 4 main units of the Superstructure together. One side is inside of the other one position wise with its vertical supports chopped back. This is to create the Hinge effect that would allow for multiple elevations of construction and size to be achieved. So here we are with another multipurpose design. Cranes are cranes, so there's that, however, where they are also matters. This design allows for the Cranes to be mounted along the Superstructures centerline. There's also 2 Massive cylindrical areas mounted outside of the Superstructure. My guess is this would be Machining Facilities. There's no rotation here, why, Robotics. Think of how clever it would be to be able to manufacture small parts in zero gravity. Also there's a connections straight out to Observation Control Rooms. This would also be a great way to get small parts out to the Assembly Yard. Next is the 3, or 6 depending on how you want to look at it Rotational Sections. This would house the living quarters, facilities, everything you need to live and work in Space. The Ends or outer areas are where shuttles would Dock. So we have worker Ingress and outgress if thats a word. Yes, it has Engines! It would need to for positional reasons. So, combine all that together and you would have a qualifying theoretical blueprint of a Babylon Station Builder. This is a remix, a real deep splash dive of many things to pull this one off from nothing to this in 5 hours with multitasking everyday life. It's also a non-commercial license, so feel free to print off, remix to your heart's content. Thanks again! I'd love to see some builds pop up. And thank you all my followers out there! Enjoy! -JH
