X inch Dahlgren pivot gun
Description
In July 1850, John Dahlgren submitted a proposed armament for frigates consisting of 6 10 inch shell-guns on pivot carriages on the spar deck, and 26 9 inch shell-guns on the gun deck. The Navy opted for 8 inch shell guns and 32# guns on the gun-deck, and 2 10 inch pivots on the spar deck. This model is the 10 inch pivot gun as proposed. Dahlgren's drawing of a Traversing Carriage with the gun altered to look like a Dahlgren gun is included, along with the Traversing Gun diagram from the "Instructions" of 1852. The gun is modled in 1:36 scale (1 inch = 3 feet) and can be scaled down as far as 1:96 scale Figures in images are purchased and not included or available from me To figure out rescaling in your slicer; divide 36 (the model is 1:36 scale) by the scale you want; for instance: 36/76 = .474 or 41%; 36/96=.375 or 38%, etc.
