Open Source Rotator Shaker variant 2.2
Description
Remixed for newer available parts. I changed the motor, motor cover, and motor driver. I updated the BOM on page 3 with cost and parts that are now available as of 3.31.24. I put total costs, including extras as part of a pack or set of items like o-rings or nuts. This project is now twice as expensive as when it was originally designed. Obviously cost would go down slightly per unit if making multiples. The motor cover was a bit of a pain. The best suited motor I could find was twice the length of the original and the motor driver available that fit the screw mount size was also taller. I split the motor cover in two and edited it for clearance. It is not perfect, but it is close enough for me and the screws line up. The new motor cover leaves just enough room to add a potentiometer to the top piece and allows space for an Arduino Nano if the Trinket is not available anymore upon reading this (it is obsoleted) To mount the motor cover and motor driver I used female-female brass stand-offs to go between the motor driver and the cover, screwed down from both the pillar side and the cover side. Easier than sourcing new extra long m2.5 bolts. The small pillar and the rotisserie are not a great fit for my bearings, they are standard skate bearings. I glued them in place at final assembly. The updated motor cover is in the STL file zip archive as well as all the originals and the FREECAD files. If someone better at CAD than me can fix the motor cover better than I did, please feel free :) I did a complete rewrite on the software and it is as yet untested. I am still finishing my remake, waiting on the rubber to arrive. If it does not work I will definitely come back and address the problem but I am confident it will be better than the original. The main thing I may need to change is the shake speed, that will require some trial and error. It's as easy as changing the delay and shake times in the code. I hope this helps someone interested in building these after more than ten years since it's original design. Happy Shaking !! - Andrew, KQ4NQJ
