Roman Dodecahedron - Foldable Flat Print
Description
No supports needed to print, living hinges allow the panels to fold into shape and snap features lock everything together. Over 100 of these dodecahedrons have been found throughout Europe. Generally made of bronze and showing few signs of wear, they do not have an obvious explanation. Tool, toy, game, decorative object, superstitious cult object, or maybe even a test of skill for metalworkers to enter a guild have all been proposed. <b>Tips:</b> - Clean your print bed fully for best results. - As all external faces were touching the printbed, this would be a GREAT use of a textured or holographic patterned surface. - The (20x) pegs have a small initial cross section and fine features so print accordingly. Avoiding brims will provide the cleanest fit into the holes. - I successfully used PLA, but other plastics will work better with the living hinge Very gentle heat gun on the living hinges may restore original color. - Align the two halves using the tiny notches, this will match the original hole layout of the historical example I based this on.
