Socks knitting loom - 2 sizes

Socks knitting loom - 2 sizes

Description

This is two knitting looms made to knit socks. They both have a ¼” gauge (center to center of pegs) Similar models are commercially available, but I thought it would be a good idea to design them myself. Print the base of your choice, or both, and the number of pegs required (a few more just in case won’t hurt) You can use multiple colors for the pegs. Personally, I print only one in different color to identify peg number 1. The pegs are tight, but not that tight. It works without glue, but I glued mine to avoid an unwelcomed accident after 10 hours of knitting! I printed both the base and the pegs in PLA-Pro, but anything should be fine. For the base I used a layer thickness of 0.2mm but activated adaptative layer so the round part looks better. The pegs can be printed at 0.2mm also with adaptative layer height, that help to have good sizing in Z direction. Align them all in the same direction on the build plate and place seam at the bottom of the pegs to avoid a seam to catch the yarn. Many small pieces on the build plate can be tricky to print, level your bed and print slow! If you have the patience to knit socks, you can wait an extra hour to print those pegs. I manually slow down the printer for the first layer, if all seems to go well, you can return to normal speed. Wall ordering Outside to Inside help with dimensional accuracy. Important note: Use fine gauge yarn! Sock yarn, fingering, etc. Larger yarn won’t work well. There are some good tutorials on Youtube, check the ones from KB.
