laser cut knife and scissors sharpener (version 2)

laser cut knife and scissors sharpener (version 2)

Description

Here is a knife and scissors sharpener. It's version 2 of thing:6597331. This version enhances the guimbal. A linear bearing (LMUU10) is now holding the aluminium rod. No more play, motion is smooth and perfect. https://youtu.be/SHpbb-il5og It uses diamond stones, two of them being positionned on the handle. Linear Ball bearings allow a fine utilization. Sharpening angles are easily determined. This sharpener can be either 3D printed or laser cut into 5mm plywood. If you laser cut, then use the dxf to cut all the part into one single plywood sheet (590x230 mm). Then glue most of the part 2 by 2 to get a 1cm thickness, assemble the parts following pictures. 2mm toothpick could be inserted into the small holes to help you align the parts and add some strength to the assembly. Insert the ball bearing (LMUU10 into the gimbal). Only this linear motion needs a bearing. Other rotation axis rotate directly into plywood. Don't oversize the holes... If you print with 3D printer then use the stl files. You can use "protactor Android App" to fine tune the sharpening angle between 13 to 30 degrees. - calibrate flat - then put the phone on the top plate and finish calibration - then put the phone on the sharpening stone and read directly the angle (see picture) up to 9x1cm neodymium magnets can be glued into the holes on the top plate to help fixing the knife. Glue the magnets on a flat surface so that they are at the same level than the knife plate. Then glue the knife plate to the to assembly. - scissors can be fixed by an horizontal screw and sharpened with this device. - you can fix the device on your table using any clamp you want. To finish assembly you will need - 50cm aluminium tube (diameter 10mm) to fix the stones. The stone holder should slide almost freely on the handle side and a spring will insure a good fix. On the other side the stone holder should be glued in place. If plywood you will have to drill the 8mm holes... - Two stones can be placed on the handle. - 3x M5 hex nuts (2cm length) + 3x small washers - 1x M8 lead screw (15cm length) + 6x nuts + 3x big washers) - 1x M8 hex nut (2cm length + 1x small washer) - gimbal uses 2 6mm hex nuts cut to fit + 2 washers - vertical axis uses 1x 4cm M5 hex nut + 2 washers
