Modular Chess Board Tiles
Description
Saw other modular board designs, but wanted one that press fit and held solid without glue, so I could separate my board in half to put on the shelf. Also wanted it 'full size' (45mmx45mm tile size) I use this for my 'Courier Chess' board that needs to be 8x12, but you could use if for a normal 8x8, a four-person 14x14 cross or any size you like! I printed mine in white-PLA and trans-TPU to match my pieces, but any filament should work. I'd love to see if anyone wants to use one of those 'two tone' filaments, and just orient the pieces so they change color depending on what side you are on. That would be awesome! They print flat - and you can decide if you prefer the top-finish or the bed-finish for the visible surface, vs how good your filament is at bridging. I test both, and it worked fine - no sanding on my part, and tolerances had a nice press fit (but ymmv of course). You could certainly glue these for a more solid board, but I've found it unnecessary for my needs. Note: in the photo, it looks like the 'outy' tiles stick out all along the edge of the board. I did include 'edge' and 'corner' tiles to prevent this, but simply ran out of time to use them myself. If you want a different tile size, or different labels on the tiles - it should be pretty straightforward in the onshape.
