Dual Y-Axis motor mount with tensioner - Ender 3 (2040 extrusion)
Description
### **STORY TIME** In search of improving my Y axis acceleration, there was an idea “Why don't we add one more stepper to Y axis ?” So searching further if anyone had the same idea and done it before, i stumbled upon this [reddit post by reddit user 1yrik](https://www.reddit.com/r/ender3/comments/125aifn/a_minidocumentary_on_how_i_installed_dual_yaxis/) who was working on finding an answer for 2 year old unanswered question 1yrik had it working with improved accel so that was a green flag for me to go through with the idea The motor mount which 1yrik designed is stationary and moves over Y axis extrusion to adjust the tension on the belts This limited the amount of travel of Bed due to Dual linear rail mount and was difficult to adjust tension (less flexibility similar to default tensioner) Hence designed this Motor mount with tensioner based on [my Edge Y axis tensioner](https://www.printables.com/model/819271-ender-3-edge-y-tensioner-for-2040-extrusion) ### Disclaimer > This mod is an easy addon if you already have [kevinakasam's Ender 3 linear rail mod](https://github.com/kevinakasam/Y_Axis_RailMod_Ender3/) since the bed mount raises the mount height a bit and default ender 3 belt tensioner will cause issue with more tension to belt in the far ends causing damage to belt. > > This mod makes sure the belt is parallel to the Y axis extrusion so tension is same for the belt from end to end of the extrusion ### **Bill Of Materials** ```plaintext 3 * GT2 6mm 20 teeth idler 1 * M5 x 40mm hex head bolt 2 * M5 x 35mm socket head bolt 2 * M5 x 12mm button head bolt 4 * M3 x 12mm socket head bolt 1 * Creality 42-34 Stepper 1 * Stepper wire 1 * Stepper splitter board (you can find in Amazon, TH3D, etc) |- or you can splice together 2 stepper wires into one (make sure you splice it correctly) M5 tapping tool (to tap thread in aluminium extrusion) ``` ### Print Settings - Atleast PETG (Preferrably ABS since stepper can run hot) - Gyroid infill @ 50% - 4 Walls - 4 Top and Bottom ### Belt Path (Cut Section View) ![](https://media.printables.com/media/prints/874594/rich_content/a32b6e6a-e941-4775-9353-5e472b847578/image.png#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%22bedee22d-b302-467b-b112-a7d76866b6a8%22%2C%22w%22%3A1599%2C%22h%22%3A1090%7D)
