pegless worm gear tuners for travelele
Description
Travelele ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2786864 ) is a brilliant design that I see as a poor man's Risa solid ( https://www.ukulele.de/concert/14/risa-uke-solid-concert ). However it is no free of issues, that I have discussed in my build report ( https://www.thingiverse.com/make:550403 ). One of the issues is the tuners: the original design uses friction tuners, that are a pain even on normal ukueles, and are probably worse with the turnaround design. BTW, while writing this, I have just discovered this "ukralele" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPD0p09kOxQ ) that has some kind of affiliation with Risa. Anyways, an improvement for travelele consist in modifying the design to use banjo-style straight tuners ( https://www.thingiverse.com/make:883546 ), which I believe are similar to those used by Risa Uke Solid. Those work well, but are kind-of-expensive ( reportedly ~15EUR a few years ago ). A cheaper compromise is to use regular 90-degree tuners, which also work well ( https://www.thingiverse.com/make:878970 ). Unfortunately they do not fit very well the travelele body, and one needs to get used to touch the gears often with the torso. Also I tend to detune very easily the instrument when transporting it, and they make tuning position a bit clumsy. Therefore, after experimenting a bit with the "gugulele with concealed tuners" design ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6628862 ), I remembered that I had tested the "guitar tuners that actually work", and found surprisingly that they worked well, I thought I could mix the 2 concepts, and that the result would ideally fit the travelele.
