Aquarium Airlift Pump for 1" clear tubing

Aquarium Airlift Pump for 1" clear tubing

Description

# Summary This is an airlift pump designed entirely in OpenSCAD. It's fully functional and connects to a standard aquarium tube input and a 1 inch clear tube output, both of which are easily purchased at low cost. ## What is an airlift pump? For those who aren't aware, airlift pumps are pumps that use differing fluid densities to create a uniform pump motion. In this case, most people who'd use this print would be using air in order to pump water upwards. The benefit of doing so is that there are no moving parts to clog, no blades to cut, and as a bonus from an aquarium perspective, you end up making more oxygen (and C02) available to your fish and plants. ## Why I designed this I didn't like any of the existing airlift pump designs I found online. Most of them either didn't work as well as I wanted, had obvious flaws, or required me to jump through extra hoops to integrate them into a system design. ## Example Use cases As with anything in the maker space, you're responsible to ensure you use a design safely. With that said, for me personally, I use this pump to power a custom designed vortex filter (I'll release it some time in the future once it's finished) within my fish tank as well as an air powered siphon for water changes. Of note: I designed that garlic bulb looking head to make it easier for it to sit under the gravel. ## OpenSCAD file? I'll release the source once I've cleaned it up a bit and made it a bit more friendly to end users. # Reference Links and related https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airlift_pump
