MINI INFINITY DODECAHEDRON FRAME
Description
This is an original frame design for an infinity dodecahedron in which the edges of each pentagon pane are 48mm long, and each pane is about 4mm (1/8" inch) thick. Each edge will allow for 6-WS2812B LEDs at 144/meter spacing. I made my initial design for 4" panels and any real photos uploaded will be of the larger design- and will have 8 pixels per edge. with other designs readily available, I decided to upload mine due to its durability. I used mine as a totem at Electric Forest 2024, and it survived outside in all of the storms. You will be printing: 15- INSIDE pieces (resin was used for mine) 15- OUTSIDE pieces (resin) 5- BOTTOM pieces (resin) 1- BOX MAIN piece (FDM used due to size) 1-BOX BOTTOM piece (FDM) YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO ORDER 12- 3"x1/8" acrylic clear pentagons (find an etsy seller that will cut these) 30- 3mm wide x 18mm long metal dowel rods. these hold the inner frame together 1-2 rolls of 3M double-sided tape. 10-13 mm wide and 1mm thick should be fine. 2- WS2812B-144 strips. you will be cutting them into 30 strips that are 6 LEDs long, with outer contacts fully intact on 20; and cutting at the end of the 6th LED on the other 10. this is to prevent shorting where arrays intersect. 1- 3-pin individually addressable LED controller. there are many available on Amazon by BTF-Lighting. or you can get fancy and control yours with an Arduino if you're into making your own programs. this will be using a 5V DC circuit. 2-2.4A USB Power banks- matching. you want at least 4 amps of output available. 2- USB-A to DC5V Male cords 1- DC5V FF-M Y cable. you'll be bridging the power from both banks with this and plugging it into your controller. One-way mirror film- enough to cover all of your panels 26AWG wire. use your best judgement on lengths, but know that you will be soldering these strips together in rather tight spaces. some super glue, just to hold pieces of the inner frame together. and I used electrical tape to hold the outside frame together after assembly. apologies if this is not thorough. as interest grows and as time permits I will be adding more details and in-depth instructions
