RC Cub Style Bush Plane Landing Gear

RC Cub Style Bush Plane Landing Gear

Description

I couldn't find a landing gear design on Thingiverse that had everything I wanted so I made my own using TinkerCAD This is a cub style landing gear meant for bush flying, and extreme taxiing all while keeping things light. I designed it for the FT simple stick but It should work well for any plane with a flat mounting space and all up weight between 500 - 1000 grams or so. This took a while to make so if you like this design leave a comment and post your make. ## Design Goals/Features - Swappable - Can bottom out without breaking - Resistant to side impacts - Supple over small bumps - Oversized wheels - Drives over medium grass and wood chips - < 100 grams - Fully articulated arms ## Materials Needed - 3mm carbon rods - 1.2mm steel pushrods - CA Glue - Soldering iron (can substitute zip ties) - M3 bolt for mounting wheels (can use 3mm pushrod instead) ## Build Instructions The hinges and wheel knuckles are printed out of TPU, everything else is PLA+. I used 20% infill on the wheels and 100% on everything else. You will need 7 segments of carbon fiber rod. Use the provide guide for the measurements and make the cuts by rolling the rod back under the blade of a utility knife. To build the arms, press fit the rods into the TPU holes and used a small dab of glue at each of the joints to secure it. This makes the rods easy to remove/replace if one does snap. Bend and cut the pushrods to size using the provided guide. Make sure to score the ends of the pushrods using sandpaper or a dremel tool so that the CA glue has more grip. Where the pushrod bends meet, tie it together using a scrap piece of copper wire and some solder. This should make a strong joint. Build the wheels with the hubcap piece on the outside. Use a dab of glue to glue the wheel hub, and wheel knuckle together. This is important to keep the joint from sagging to much since its flexible. Rubber bands can be added as needed to get the right amount of flex. The entire thing can be mounted using packing tape or glued in place. In the event of a major crash you want the tape to flex or even break. Happy Flying! ;)
