Sega Saturn Virtua Gun GX16 Adapter

Sega Saturn Virtua Gun GX16 Adapter

Description

### An adapter for all your no-cut Virtua Gun GX retrofit needs! Allows a GX16 connector to be used in a Sega Saturn Stunner, otherwise known as the Virtua Gun, without need for case modification. Pretty straightforward, really. Naturally, **this implies you're using the gun with a GX distribution box.** If you don't already have one, consider using [my simple GX distro box](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6700309) made for [OpenFIRE](https://github.com/TeamOpenFIRE/OpenFIRE-Firmware)! #### If any of my work has brought you enjoyment or value, [consider supporting me on Ko-fi!](https://ko-fi.com/thatoneseong) Prints on Ender 3-alikes, print as shown, using tree supports *only* on the outside of the GX fitment only - you may want to use support blockers on the base and the inside of the GX threading to prevent unnecessary branching for faster prints and less needless plastic waste material. The stronger the filament material, the better - and since it's such a small part (and gets a lot of abuse) you should use 100% infill. The work-in-progress label just means that I haven't done extreme long-term tests, but it feels solid for my needs so far. Any GX16 Male connectors are compatible, though OpenFIRE users may want to use 8 Pin connectors to take advantage of both available Pedal inputs, if so desired. For 8 Pin users, I recommend using this layout (making sure it matches your distribution box): ![GX](https://puu.sh/Kb9tU/24384d6818.png) For the complete package, may want to ensure you have: - [A Micro USB pigtail connector (4 Pin, Male)](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805747147062.html): 0.3M fits, but you may want 1M for extra slack for the Virtua Gun. - [A GX Connector (GX16, Male, 8 Pin))](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255800369396931.html) - [A GX Cable (Female-Female, GX16, 8 Pin)](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804809707789.html): You may want anywhere from 2M to 3M cable length. - 22AWG Wire: For your solenoid power/ground connections - 28/30AWG Wire: For your pedal connection, if using one) ## Quick Wiring Instructions: Print as shown. Once printed, set up your solenoid driver to use standalone 22AWG strands, and plug in the USB pigtail to your microcontroller (as well as wire your pedal, if in use). Strip and tin your wires, making sure the exposed copper wire isn't longer than 3mm, and then thread them through the opening in the base of the adapter. Tin the back pins in your GX connector. Now solder the wires to their respective pins on the connector (ensuring the wires are still threaded through the hole) - this can be a pain in the ass, but patience will help tons. Once all the wires have confirmed good connections, insert the connector into the threads on the adapter, making sure to ***rotate the base, NOT the GX connector itself*** as you'll risk breaking your wires from winding them together too much. The Virtua Gun's opening is relatively even, but make sure to keep the wires from needlessly spinning while you thread the base through until the connector plate so you don't break off any of the connections. Once the connector's threaded, simply attach the adapter into the opening in the base of the Virtua Gun - the curve should be towards the shorter back end of the handle. Finally, make sure the cabling is cleared from any of the gun supports, and close it shut, handle first while carefully wedging the GX adapter snug into place between the two halves. Congrats, your Virtua Gun is now GX-ified! You may want to be a bit careful when connecting/disconnecting the GX cable, but now it should be much more convenient than separate USB/Solenoid/Pedal connectors.
