Pinky Partner

Pinky Partner

Description

When I was a kid, I read that humans were evolving a sixth finger next to the pinky. I have no idea whether that's true or not, but the idea stuck in my head. What would it be like to have another finger? How could that be useful? So here's a sixth finger, based almost entirely on Gyrobot's excellent Flexy-Hand design (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:242639). To create this for the right hand, go to the Flexy-Hand page and download files RH 5-1, RH 5-2, RH 5-3, and Ring Pull. Print those from PLA or whatever rigid filament you prefer. Then download and print the FFX-Finger Hinge Plate file from TPU (I used 95a rigidity). Finally, print my small contribution (the .STL base plate on this page). Assemble the digits with the TPU hinges in-between, run a strand of TPU filament through the holes in the front of the digits, and tie it to the thumb ring. This strand causes the finger to bend when the thumb moves. Connect an elastic band to the holes in the base plate so it clings to your hand, and you've got another finger to enjoy!
